About the Artist

Susan A. Point is a Coast Salish artist from Musqueam, a First Nation in Vancouver, British Columbia.

She is one of the first female Coast Salish artists to have achieved wide recognition, and is an influential figure among Northwest Coast artists. She draws inspiration from the stories of her ancestors and commences the use of non-traditional materials and techniques, therefore inspiring a whole new generation of artists.

The artwork: Wood Peckers

Wood Peckers is an example of Susan’s distinct style, inspired by the values of her culture and the stories of her ancestors.

Interstyle goal was to reproduce the artwork without affecting Susan’s original design, and in a way that was also experienced by the public.

Interstyle interprets Wood Peckers medallion by Susan A. Point

The result is a medallion made of 12”x24” porcelain tiles, individually hand-crafted, finished with corundum (enhanced slip resistance), for floor application. We selected the colors from the Interstyle 240 collection to reproduce the original vibe inspired by the natural world of Susan Point (Sumac, Secret Passage, Pinenut, Backstone).

Very detailed guidelines made the installation easier.
Each tile is labeled.

The final result is stunning.
